Steven Foster
Steven Foster has been working with young children and families for over thirty years in the United States. Originally trained as a clinical social worker, he worked first in mental health settings and later in an Early Childhood Special Education program. His work has always involved helping children who demonstrate significant social, emotional and behavioral challenges for their parents and teachers. First trained in Positive Discipline in 2001, he has since gone on to become a lead trainer for the Positive Discipline Association. His combined love of Positive Discipline and working with young children with special needs led to a collaboration in 2011 with Jane Nelsen and Arlene Raphael that produced the book, Positive Discipline for Children with Special Needs. In 2018 Steven co-authored, with Cheryl Erwin and Jane Nelsen, the Positive Discipline for Early Childhood Educators manual. Most recently, again with Cheryl Erwin and Jane Nelsen, he co-wrote a set of Tool Cards for Early Childhood Educators. Currently, Steven is in private practice as a Positive Discipline trainer, consultant and coach both in the United States and internationally.
